At Platinum Pancakes we put a lot of effort into finding the finest local ingredients. Buying local makes good economic sense, buying the best, locally, makes good food too. We buy, trade and barter for seasonal fruit and never serve strawberries in December. The best stuff on the menu is homemade but we are also proud to serve old favourites, like Nutella.
We use local organically grown wheat. Our flour is stoneground in small batches at an ancient watermill, that is listed in the Doomsday Book! The wheel is only turned with water power and the custodians of this historic mill insist upon continuing their craft as it has been done for a thousand years. “It’s like cooking with clouds”
Local, Free Range and straight from the hens, our eggs are delivered weekly, direct from the farm. The Hens have the freedom to roam in the woods, scratch in the dirt or have a duvet day. It’s up to them. Each egg is unique as a result, different sizes, different patterns, but they are all fresh and delicious.
Whole and super fresh, we collect our milk direct from a traditional local dairy, often just an hour after milking! The Cows are grass fed all year round, the milk is rich and creamy, gently pasteurised and never skimmed. Good animal welfare is clearly a focus. We are welcomed into every part of the farm and dairy, it's great to see how much the farmer loves his cows and “Stanley” their colossus bull.
